About Mrs. Hislop

I earned both my bachelor's degree and teaching credential from CSU Chico, where I studied English Education and Theatre Arts. I student taught English 9 and 11 at Oroville High School. I taught both English 7 and ELD at Marsh for seven years before moving to Chico Junior High School last year.

My favorite aspects of teaching English include reading novels and poetry with kids. My favorite books include Antoine de Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince, John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible, and of course, anything by Shakespeare. I also am completely in love with Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, and have read each one of them at least seven or eight times.  During the summer of 2015, my family and I visited many of the places important in Laura's life.  Ask me about it sometime!

I love teaching junior high students because they crack me up! My outside hobbies and interests are piano, knitting and sewing, yoga, dance, spending time with loved ones, and photography. My husband, Nathan Hislop, teaches AP English and AVID at River Valley High School. We have have a daughter, Lily, and a son, Ike.
